Learn how to count fish at the Ipswich Mills Dam fish ladder. Volunteers sign up for 10-minute counts that help estimate the population of river herring returning to the Ipswich River to spawn. No experience necessary. Here is a fun and easy way to help the river–suitable for all ages! Sign up online.

Get outside in the autumn sun and join the Ipswich River Watershed Association in preparing Riverbend’s beautiful native plant gardens for the winter. We have gardening supplies available, or you can bring your own. This is a good opportunity for students looking to fulfill volunteer hours. Macroinvertebrates (bugs) are good indicators of water quality. The Ipswich River Watershed Association samples them annually to track the health of the Ipswich River. At this training, you’ll learn how to collect macroinvertebrate samples and perform a habitat assessment. This is an important monitoring task with flexible hours!
