Coastwatch coastal zone repair

Salem Sound Coastwatch began a journey four years ago with the City of Salem and Coastal Zone Management to return salt marsh to the filled tidelands at Collins Cove bike path. Construction finally happened last May, followed by our 130 volunteers planting 15,000 salt marsh grasses.
October’s two nor’easters and bomb cyclone with 90-mile hour winds damaged to some of the coir logs placed at the water’s edge that are there to prevent the sand from eroding before the roots get established. Plants remained in place and repairs are almost complete, but help is needed with the final step in the repairs, twining the stakes that prevent the blanket from lifting.
