Root’s mission is to help young adults create a pathway to independence through food service training and employment. By developing essential life and work readiness skills, youth leave Root prepared for success in the workplace.
Root uniquely works to address food insecurity for our vulnerable neighbors in Essex County and create employment opportunities for Root graduates. In 2020, Root alumni prepared over 20,000 meals for seniors, children, and families affected by the COVID crisis through our Community Catering initiative. This Community Catering provided over 2,000 hours of employment, continued training, and leadership development for Root alumni.
