DESCRIPTION:Salem Teachers Union\, in conjunction with Peabody Federation of Teachers\, AFT MA and AFT National\, is hosting a First Book Truck Event on December 1.  We have 45\,000 new books that have been donated to our cities and they will be distributed to educators and families. \nThe books are being housed at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School and that is where the event will take place.  We will need volunteers to move books on Friday\, November 30th from one side of the cafe to the other\, and volunteers on Saturday to help the day run smoothly.  Friday will involve moving stacks upon stacks of books and is quite physical.  Saturday will involve helping children select books\, directing people in the high school where the bathrooms are\, etc.  Not as physical. \nSign up online.

SUMMARY:Salem Community Life Center food program
DESCRIPTION:The Salem Community Life Center is working with the United States Department of Agriculture and the Greater Boston Food Bank to to offer a Commodity Supplemental Food Program for income eligible seniors age 60 and over who are in need of supplementing their diets. \nSome seniors will need someone to pick up their groceries from the distribution site and deliver them. Volunteers will pick up packages between 12 and 1 pm at the Danvers Council on Aging at 25 Stone Street in Danvers and it will take approximately one hour to deliver to Salem seniors. (With more participants\, a distribution site will be set up in Salem.) 2018 distribution dates are Monday\, October 1\, Monday\, November 5\, and Monday\, December 3. \nVolunteers must have their own car\, be able to lift 10lbs\, and pass a CORI check. \nContact the Salem Social Service Department at 978-744-0924.
