SUMMARY:The Spirits Speak
DESCRIPTION:This October\, Essex Heritage will present The Spirits Speak\, a historically accurate recreation of a Victorian-era seance produced and performed by acclaimed local magician Evan Northrup. Drawing from popular pastimes and performances of the period\, this program is intended to highlight the Victorian interest in spiritualism and its integration into popular magic and theater of the day. Through the clever use of illusions and stage magic\, the audience will witness the techniques used by mediums and mentalists of the period. \nVolunteers will be needed to assist with front-of-house duties before\, during\, and after the performances. Volunteer roles are: \n\nMain entrance information: Seated or standing outside the side entrance of the Visitor Center to answer questions and promote the event.\nMain entrance security: Positioned at the side door and responsible for not allowing the general public inside without tickets or interest in buying tickets. They will also be checking bags at the entrance. Will need to keep out those who are visibly intoxicated and direct people to the porta-potties.\nTicket sales and check-in: To sell tickets to the event for those that have not yet purchased and check in anyone who has already purchased tickets. These staff will be located at a table in front of the auditorium. They will hand out souvenir tickets and stamp hands for entry.\nGatekeeper: To float around the lobby to answer questions for visitors and help with crowd control and checking tickets. This position is a utility player.\nUshers/performance: To direct guests to seats and to stand inside the theater with flashlights in case of emergency. As the show is ending\, they will direct guests out of the theater through the side door. These staff may also be needed for certain effects during the show.\n\nShift times will vary depending on the date and role; shifts will start no earlier than 5pm and end no later than 10pm. \nRyan at ryanc@essexheritage.org or 978-740-0444.

The NSMM delivers groceries monthly to nearly 200 households in local communities. The NSMM is also the only mobile market that includes pet food with regular delivery. \nWe all need to be fed. Here’s how you can feed and be fed! \nVolunteers are needed to help deliver groceries on Wednesday mornings from approximately 9am until noon. DESCRIPTION:LEAP for Education is looking for volunteers to help students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). \nLEAP for Education is partnering with Salem Academy Charter School in collaboration with FAFSA Day Massachusetts. This is a volunteer driven program providing free help statewide to students and families looking to complete the FAFSA. \nFAFSA Day will take place Sunday\, November 4 at Salem Academy Charter School (45 Congress Street\, Salem) and will be open to the public from 10am to 1pm. Families can drop in anytime and fill out the FAFSA form on their own or with assistance from staff and volunteers. \nVolunteers will answer questions regarding the FAFSA that families might have\, show students how to begin their FAFSA applications\, and ensure that families leave the event having completed and submitted their applications. \nTraining is required for all volunteers on Thursday\, November 1 from 6 to 8pm at Salem Academy Charter School to ensure that each volunteer is comfortable with the forms and the requirements. DESCRIPTION:The Salem Community Life Center is working with the United States Department of Agriculture and the Greater Boston Food Bank to to offer a Commodity Supplemental Food Program for income eligible seniors age 60 and over who are in need of supplementing their diets. \nSome seniors will need someone to pick up their groceries from the distribution site and deliver them. Volunteers will pick up packages between 12 and 1 pm at the Danvers Council on Aging at 25 Stone Street in Danvers and it will take approximately one hour to deliver to Salem seniors. (With more participants\, a distribution site will be set up in Salem.) 2018 distribution dates are Monday\, October 1\, Monday\, November 5\, and Monday\, December 3. \nVolunteers must have their own car\, be able to lift 10lbs\, and pass a CORI check. \nContact the Salem Social Service Department at 978-744-0924.
